The footbed is noticeably shaped rather than flat. Combined with the rigid base, it gives the middle of the foot much more structure than you get from a basic work shoe. Dansko Professional Sizing Is Different

Do not try to fit the Professional like a sneaker. Dansko uses European whole sizes, such as 38, 39 and 40 rather than standard US half sizes. More importantly, the heel is supposed to move.

Dansko recommends leaving roughly a pinky finger’s width between your heel and the back of the clog. Your heel should lift slightly as you walk. That can feel completely wrong the first time you put on a pair. It is intentional.
